Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Just a few hours after ringing in the new year, the first baby of 2012 arrived. Little Jace Parker Horn was born at 4:25 a.m. at Cox Monett Hospital on New Year's Day four weeks ahead of his due date to the surprise and delight of his parents, Jason and Elizabeth Horn, of Cassville.

The little lad weighed 8 pounds and 1 ounce and measured 21 inches. Jace is currently in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Cox South Hospital in Springfield. Upon discharge, he will be welcomed home by two big sisters, Hayleigh, age 6, and Kenzie, 19 months.

As the first baby born in 2012, Jace has won the annual First Baby contest sponsored by the Cassville Democrat and participating businesses.

This year's prizes and sponsors include: a special gift from Barry Electric Cooperative; a baby ring from Tomblin's; a special surprise from Designs by Debbie; a $50 gift card from Fastrip; a surprise package from Cassville First Baptist Church; a surprise gift package from Freedom Bank; a supply of disposable diapers from Security Bank; a $50 savings bond from First State Bank; a special baby gift from St. John's Hospital-Cassville; a special surprise from Ball and Prier Tire; a special baby gift basket from Walmart; and a baby book and a year's subscription from the Cassville Democrat.

This is the 17th year that the Cassville Democrat has sponsored a First Baby contest.
