The Pierce City Lady Eagles topped Purdy 63-56 in Friday night varsity basketball action.
"Our defense played amazing tonight," said Pierce City coach Tiffany Dirks. "We were able to control the pace of the game. This is the best the girls have played all season. I think we are coming together at the right time."
Purdy rocketed out of the gate and led 18-12 at the end of the first period. Pierce City countered in the second quarter, taking advantage of team height to earn a 29-28 lead into halftime. Pierce City continued the momentum into the third period and used defensive pressure to hold Purdy to just 3 points and build a 43-31 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Foul trouble also hurt Purdy.
"We really became cautious in the third and fourth period with Mattie and Addy playing with four fouls each," said Purdy coach Grant Young. "We dug a big hole and credit Pierce City for outworking us for the win."
