Dr. CJ Huff, Joplin School District superintendent, will be the guest speaker at the annual Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce banquet on Saturday, Jan. 28. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Cassville High School commons area.

"We would like to extend an invitation to the 2012 chamber banquet with guest speaker Dr. CJ Huff," said Gary Whyte, incoming chamber president. "He promises to be an exciting speaker who we all can relate to since most everyone here in Cassville knows somebody affected by the Joplin tornado.

"Come share in a fun evening and hear Joplin's inspirational story of hope," added Whyte.

Dr. Huff is currently serving his fourth year as superintendent of the Joplin School District. He is also active in the Joplin community through participating in the Joplin Chamber of Commerce

Dr. Huff also serves on the United Way Board of Directors and Bright Futures USA Board of Directors and is a lunch buddy through the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program.

Prior to moving to Joplin in July of 2008, Dr. Huff served as superintendent at the Eldon School District, near Lake of the Ozarks, for four years.

A life-long career in education also allowed Dr. Huff to serve as principal in the Nixa, Springfield and Bolivar school districts and as an elementary school teacher in Bolivar and Pleasanton, Kan.

Dr. Huff has earned two associate degrees from Labette Community College in Parsons, Kan., a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Pittsburg State University, master's and specialist's degrees from Missouri State University and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

Born and raised in southeast Kansas near McCune, Kan., Dr. Huff was a farmer for eight years before he began his career in education. He credits much of his success to a strong work ethic and values instilled in him by his family.

Dr. Huff and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for 14 years. They have three children, Savannah, 11, Keaton, 9, and Julianne, 2.

In addition to enjoying Dr. Huff's address, banquet attendees will be treated to a dinner catered by John Sullivan and the Cassville High School FCCLA. Accents-N-Tents will provide decor for the event.

Current and outgoing chamber board members will be recognized during the banquet. The event will also offer addresses by Whyte and outgoing chamber president Michael LeCompte.

New chamber board members who will be recognized during the banquet are Guila Norris, Joel Curren, Kelly Mills and Coy Dalton. Retiring board members include: Stacy Runnels, Dr. Chip Kammerlohr, Blake Whitley and Jan Massey.

Near the end of the banquet, those in attendance will have the opportunity to win one of the beautiful table decorations donated by local businesses. The decorations will serve as centerpieces during the banquet.

"The banquet will offer fun, food and fellowship," said LeCompte. "What more could you ask for?"

Tickets for the annual banquet are available at the chamber office, which is located at 504 Main St. in Cassville. Advanced tickets are $20 per person. Tickets will also be available at the door for a cost of $22 per person.
