The Purdy Eagles and Lady Eagles picked up hard-fought victories on Tuesday night.
The Eagles downed Crane 54-53 to improve to 5-3 on the young season.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 15-9 lead in the first quarter, but Purdy rallied, outscoring the defending Class 2 champions 18-10 to take a 27-25 lead into halftime. Crane tied the game at 39-39 at the end of the third quarter. Purdy, however, outperformed Crane 23-16 in the final eight minutes to ensure the victory.
Scoring for Purdy were: Drew Williams, 19 points; Devon Bennett, 13 points; Cody Hall, 9 points; Glenn Scott, 6 points; Garen Nelson, 3 points; and Cameron Terry and Brent Cornman, 2 points each.
The Purdy Lady Eagles dispatched College Heights 66-21, improving to 7-1 this season.
Purdy ended the first quarter with a 13-point 21-8 lead and cruised into halftime up 36-10.
The second half played out like the first as the Lady Eagles outscored their opponent 30 to 11.
Scoring for Purdy were: Addy Roller, 24 points; Taylor Moller, 13 points; Rachael Neill, 11 points; Katie Hughes, 8 points; Billie House and Mattie White, 4 points each; and Kristyn Cornman, 2 points.
The Eagles will be in action on Monday as they open play in the Southwest Holiday tournament against Hollister. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m.
The Lady Eagles open holiday tournament play in Neosho on Tuesday against Cassville. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
