Nominations are needed for the Barry County Fair Board. Although members voted to dissolve the fair board in October, the corporation governing the organization remained in place and is now planning to establish a new board of directors.
"We received lots of phone calls from the community asking us to re-establish the Barry County Fair," said Ernest Ray, who served as the board president. "A lot of the local kids said that this is the only fair they will have the opportunity to go to."
Many area agriculture students participate in the Barry County Fair due to its proximity, said Ray. Not all students can afford to travel to larger fairs in neighboring communities.
"I would like to get a representative from each portion of the county," said Ray. "We will limit the board to four or five people this time, with representation from various communities. The sole purpose of the fair board will still be to serve the kids of Barry County."
Ray will accept nominations for the fair board over the next few weeks. The new board will likely be established by mid-January 2012.
"I would like to hear from interested individuals as quickly as possible," said Ray. "Once the board is established, the directors will decide whether we continue the premium sale and begin planning for the fair. We do not have a location for the fair at this time."
