The Southwest Lady Trojans continued their winning tear on Friday night, taking a 67-19 victory over visiting McAuley Catholic. Southwest improved to 5-0 with the win and moved to 1-0 in the Ozark 7 Conference.
The Lady Trojans exploded to a 22-7 lead after one quarter and led 43-9 at halftime over the overmatched Lady Warriors. McAuley managed to score 10 in the third frame, but Southwest blanked the visitors 11-0 in the final period to take the 67-19 win.
Taylor Mettlach paced Southwest with 21 points against McAuley.
On Saturday, the Lady Trojans traveled to Bolivar for a game against the California Lady Pintos at Southwest Baptist University. Cal entered the game 3-1 after taking second in the Eugene Tournament and then defeating Dixon, 57-48.
The Lady Pintos jumped out in front, 15-6, and held 25-13 and 39-27 leads at the next two quarter breaks enroute to a 56-39 win. The loss ended Southwest's season-opening win streak and leaves the Lady Trojans at 5-1.
California's Sydney Deeken scored a game-high 19 points. Nicole Ickes and Michaela Mitchell each scored 11 for Southwest, and Mettlach added 10.
"We wanted to play California to see how we compare with a top Class 3 team," said Southwest's Steve Rissler. "This game will definitely help us in the long run."
