The Southwest Trojans extended their win streak to three with a 69-39 home victory over McAuley on Friday night. Southwest defeated East Newton earlier in the week, 64-43, behind a 21-point performance by Skylar Knoll.
"Our defense was solid in the first half, limiting McAuley to only 14 points," reported Southwest's Jason Horn. "Offensively, we are starting to find our rhythm, and show some consistency in shooting the basketball."
The Trojans jumped to a 22-8 lead in the first quarter, fueled by the energy of the Tip Off crowd. Southwest increased the margin with a 15-6 second quarter and held a comfortable 37-14 lead at halftime.
James Pettit led the Trojans in scoring with 14. Four of Pettit's five field goals came from beyond the three-point line.
The victory gave Southwest a 4-1 overall record and a 1-0 conference slate.
Southwest scorers: James Pettit, 14; Jordan Epling, 13; Tyler Ferguson, 11; Travis Hayworth, 9; Skylar Knoll, 7; Josh Cutberth, 6; Jeff Elkins, 4; and Jake Shrum, 2. Cole Lowry led McAuley with 15 points.
