More parades on tap
Barry Countians will continue to celebrate the holiday season with more Christmas parades this weekend. Events will be held in Washburn, Seligman and Wheaton throughout the day on Saturday.
Washburn Christmas Parade
The Washburn Area Chamber of Commerce will host its fifth annual Christmas Parade in downtown Washburn at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10.
The parade will begin at the First Baptist Church parking lot on Second Street and proceed south on Second Street to North Street. The parade will continue south on Main Street and then travel east on Highway 90 to the Southwest Middle School parking lot.
The following cash prizes will be presented to the top parade entries: religious and non-religious floats, $50, first place, $25, second place, and $10, third place; and commercial floats and horse entries, $50, first place, and $25, second place.
Trophies will be given to the first and second place marching bands and flag corps and the best decorated, oldest and most unusual vehicles.
Parade registration forms can be obtained at many Washburn businesses or by calling 826-4008. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 9.
Seligman Christmas Parade
The Seligman Christmas Parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Dec. 10. Entry forms are available at the Seligman City Hall.
Over $600 in prize money will be given away during the event. Prize categories include: religious floats; non-religious floats; marching units; best animal unit; best antique vehicle; best non-antique vehicle; and best motorcycle or off-road vehicle.
Santa will distribute treat bags to area children at the Seligman Community Center after the parade.
The Shop With a Cop drawing will be held, and the winners of the Seligman Christmas Lighting Contest will be announced after the holiday parade.

Wheaton Christmas Parade
The City of Wheaton's annual night-time Christmas parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10.
The parade traditionally attracts several dozen entries. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: religious floats; non-religious floats; cars and trucks; tractors, antique automobile and modern vehicles; and miscellaneous entries.
Parade entries will be accepted until 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 10. Participants will line up at Gizmo's Event Center on Highway 86. The parade will proceed to Main Street and then travel east on Main Street to the Wheaton School.
Hotdogs, chili, hot chocolate and cookies will be offered in the Wheaton City Park after the parade. Santa will be available in the park to visit with area children after the parade. Treat bags will be distributed to youngsters in attendance.
