The Exeter R-6 School Board received an update on the district's anti-bullying initiatives at its regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 12.
Tim Jordan, school counselor, has implemented the program "Bully Proofing Your School." Character words are used in counseling sessions, and teachers are provided with a handbook regarding character building.
High school students will take part in an anti-bullying assembly that will be performed for middle school students.
The board also received an update on safety and security. The update offered information on several security expenses, including: library automation, $2,000 to $5,000; wireless access, $18,000; and an auto scrubber, $8,000.
The board voted to purchase radio systems for the school buses at a cost of $18,798.60.
In other business, the Exeter R-6 School Board:
* Heard administrative reports.
* Discussed a request from the senior class to host a donkey basketball game. The board asked for more information on how the event will impact the new gymnasium floor.
* Received an update on several student performance improvement programs, including AIMS Web, Data Team, Teacher Groups, Tier Instruction and Tiger Time.
* Heard that administrators met with Dennis Cooper and Marsha Lay, of the Missouri State School Board Association. The district's accountability plan, No Child Left Behind requirements and professional development were discussed.
