The Purdy Eagles basketball team opened the 2011-12 campaign with a solid 77-48 victory over Lutie last Tuesday night in the opening round of the Clever Tournament.
"We played really well in our half-court set on offense," said Purdy coach Tommy Egan. "We ran the floor really well tonight. We need to solidify our half-court defense, but I was pleased with our effort."
The Eagles jumped out to a 23-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised into halftime with a 40-25 advantage. Purdy continued the attack in the second half, outscoring Lutie 17-11 in the third period and 22-14 in the final frame.
Drew Williams led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points. Brent Cornman recorded 11 points. Cody Hall finished with 10 points. Garren Nelson and Devon Bennett added 9 points each. Glenn Scott contributed 8 points. Alex Haworth chipped in 6 points. Cameron Terry tallied 5 points, and Reese Stevenson and Keevin Walker scored 2 points apiece.
