Voting now open for Best of Rural Missouri Contest

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Bragging rights are up for grabs for favorite rural towns, businesses, eateries and other destinations in the 2012 Best of Rural Missouri Readers' Choice Contest.

For more than a decade, Rural Missouri magazine has organized the contest to allow its readers the opportunity to vote for their favorites across the Show-Me State. This year's contest will be a throwback to the early years, returning to a statewide format.

Four years ago, the contest adopted a regional format that allowed local -- but perhaps lesser known -- favorites to earn time in the spotlight.

"As the contest enters its second decade, we decided it was time to go back to how it all began," said Rural Missouri Editor Jim McCarty. "We want to truly find the best of the best, and no one knows rural Missouri better than our readers."

Voting opened this month and ballots will be accepted through Jan. 6, 2012.

To enter, visit www.ruralmissouri.coop/2012BestofRM.php and vote online or download a mail-in ballot.

This year's categories include: Best Restaurant, Best Barbecue, Best Chili, Best Pizza, Best Catfish, Best Race Track, Best Vacation Spot, Best Cave, Best Offbeat Attraction, Best Natural Wonder and Most Beautiful Town.

Those who return a ballot with votes in at least 10 categories will be eligible to win a Best of Missouri gift basket valued at $500. The drawing for the basket will be held Jan. 13, 2012.

With a monthly circulation of more than 540,000, Rural Missouri is the official publication of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives and the largest consumer publication in the state.
