Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly invites area students interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice to apply for the John Dennis Scholarship, which is awarded by the Missouri Sheriffs' Association.
Applicants must be in good standing at their high school, provide a letter of reference from their school counselor, demonstrate financial need, achieve at least a 2.0 grade point average and participate in extracurricular activities.
Each application must include a paragraph detailing goals for the first 10 years after high school graduation.
The Missouri Sheriff's Association will award a $1,000 scholarship to 16 college-bound Missouri high school seniors who intend to pursue a career in criminal justice. Scholarship winners must attend a Missouri college or university.

Applications must be returned by Jan. 31, 2012.
