Bonnie Louise Stewart, 83, of Marionville, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2011.
She was born in Miami, Okla., Sept. 7, 1928, the daughter of William Franklin (Jack) and Ella Mae (Stark) Stewart, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, George, Bernard and Jack, Jr.; and one sister, Gwendolyn Myers.
Survivors include: one brother, Don Stewart and his wife, Edna Mae, of Texas City, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Wanda Stewart, of Wheaton.
She graduated from Wheaton High School and continued her education at St. John's Nursing School in Joplin, where she became a registered nurse. On Dec. 11, 1951, she joined the U.S. Air Force and served during both the Korean War and Vietnam War. Throughout her service career, she received several medals, badges and commendations which included a Bronze Star. After serving over 20 years, she retired as a Lt. Colonel on Jan. 31, 1972, at Biloxi, Miss. She moved to Ocean Springs, Miss., following her retirement and became very active in the Presbyterian Church, where she was an Elder.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Rev. Linda Jordan will conduct the services. Burial with full military honors will be in Muncie Chapel Cemetery, Wheaton.
