Marie Ann (Held) Merz, 91, of Shell Knob, passed away at The Playce Independent Living Facility in Shell Knob, on Nov. 26, 2011. She was born in Alma Center, Wis., Nov. 5, 1920, to Peter and Mary (Strobel) Held. In 1941, she was united in marriage to Emmett Hepler, he preceded her in death on June 5, 1983. In 1984, she was remarried to Lester Merz, who also preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2001.
In 1996, she moved from Florida to Shell Knob. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob. She was a homemaker and member of the PCCW Women's Club and The Solo Club of Shell Knob.
Survivors include: her two daughters, Linda Bell, and her husband, John, of Hiawassee, Ga., and Judi Fouser, of Shell Knob; one sister, Lorrayne Sarner, of Geneva, Ill.; four step-children, Norm Merz, and his wife, Mary, Gene Merz, Marilyn Lowe, and her husband, John, and Renee Tozier, and her husband, Toby; nine grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and 26 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters; one stepdaughter Alicia McEniry; one daughter-in-law, Barb Merz; and one son-in-law, Bill Fouser.
Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Celebrant will be Rev. David Miller.
