A Purdy man was arraigned in Barry County Circuit Court Monday on charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the drunk driving crash that killed a 10-year-old Washburn girl.
Gregory Swaffar, of Purdy, was set to appear before Judge Robert S. Wiley. Swaffar also faces charges of second degree assault and driving while intoxicated, persistent offender. Swaffar is represented by Shara Anne Martin, assistant public defender.
On Feb. 19 at 11:40 p.m., Swaffar was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota on Highway 37 when he crossed the center line and struck a 1995 Mercury Sable, driven by Kenneth M. Keif, head on. Swaffar was reportedly driving drunk. A passenger in the vehicle, Keif's daughter, Melissa Keif, died from injuries suffered in the crash.
Also injured in the crash were Kenneth Keif, 33, of Washburn, and Sandra S. Larson, 46, of Shell Knob, a passenger in the Swaffar vehicle. The crash occured one mile south of Butterfield.
