We would like to thank the Barry County Commissioners, sheriff and prosecuting attorney for their effort to inform the voters of Barry County of the need for the 3/16th of a cent law enforcement tax.
These individuals deal with the finances and needs of the county on a day-to-day basis. Knowing the needs and lack of funds available, they chose to present it to the taxpayers for their decision.
Cherry Warren, presiding commissioner, met with voters in each of the town hall meetings and also took time to meet with several individual groups to inform them of the need for the tax, even though he had no more to gain than any other resident of the county.
One of the strongest opponents of the law enforcement tax does not live in Barry County, but took the initiative to strongly oppose it. Others were not willing to take the effort to be informed in order to make a wise decision.
Despite the minimal cost, voters chose not to support a speedier court process and for less law enforcement protection rather than more. County officeholders have pledged to give the best service they can with the funds available.
Thank God for the freedom we have as Americans to make these decisions.
