Soroptimist International of Barry County is now accepting applications for the Women's Opportunity Award and the Violet Richardson Award.
The Women's Opportunity Award will recognize a women who serves as the primary wage earner for her family and is seeking financial assistance to complete post-secondary education. The $300 cash grant is available to offset the costs of tuition, books and other education-related expenses.
The Women's Opportunity Award recipient will be nominated for a regional award that is worth $5,000.
The Violet Richardson Award will be presented to a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17. The recipient will be honored for volunteer work that is associated with fighting drugs, crime and violence, cleaning up the environment or ending discrimination and poverty.
The Violet Richardson Award winner will receive a $300 prize. Local recipients are eligible for one of 28 $1,000 regional awards.
Applications for both awards are available at Freedom Bank. Students can also apply for the Violet Richardson Award at Cassville High School. The application deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 1.
