First annual Turkey Trot planned in Monett

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Monett's first annual Crosslines Turkey Trot, sponsored by Monett First United Methodist Church, will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24.

The 5K and one-mile walk will begin at 8:30 a.m., rain, shine or snow, beginning at the church, located at 1600 N. Central. The course will be a flat, rolled, grassy trail all on church property, and a map of the route will be available on the day of the race.

A free pancake breakfast, sponsored by The Community Kitchen, will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the church. Canned item donations are welcome.

"The Community Kitchen and the First United Methodist Church wants to give back to the community," said Charlene Dart, associate pastor of the church. "By sponsoring the Turkey Trot, we are able to do that with all of the proceeds going to Crosslines.

"Crosslines does so much for our community in so many ways," added Dart. "This is a way of showing support for an organization that helps so many people with so many needs."

Participants can pre-register at the church. Pre-registration is open until Nov. 11.

The cost for the 5K individual is $15 for preregistered runners and $20 on race day. Families (single household) can enter the 5K and run together for $35 before the race and $45 on the day of the race. The cost for the one-mile walk/run is $10 per individual and $25 for a family. Packet pickup will be held from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on the day of the race. Participants can purchase T-shirts for $5. All proceeds from the Turkey Trot will go to Crosslines.
