Fireman's Ball to be held in Wheaton
The inaugural Wheaton Fire Department Fireman's Ball will be held at Gizmo's Event Center in Wheaton on Friday, Nov. 4. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
"Everyone in the area should plan to attend to support our volunteer firemen," said Donna Youngblood, event fundraiser chair. "These men and women give, give, give to their community. This is our chance to recognize them."
The event will offer an Italian theme with a gourmet spaghetti dinner. Meals will be served with dessert and a beverage.
"We will have a silent auction," said Youngblood. "This will offer a variety of items donated by area businesses."
Barry County Connection, a favorite local band, will perform during the event. The group traditionally performs a mixture of country and classic rock songs.
"Dancing will be optional," said Youngblood. "If you want to dance, you can, but if you would rather just listen to the music that is great too."
Bob Lombard, Wheaton fire chief, will present his annual volunteer awards during the Fireman's Ball.
"Volunteers run our fire department," said Youngblood. "In addition to all they do for us all year, they always work really hard for days getting ready for the barbecue. We thought it would be nice if we could do something to show our appreciation to all of these good, kind and caring citizens of our community."
Event organizers are hoping to see around 200 people attend this year's Fireman's Ball. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wheaton Fire Department.
Donations are still being accepted for the silent auction. Businesses, individuals and organizations interested in donating items are invited to call 417-652-3590 or drop donations off at Gizmo's Event Center or Wheaton City Hall.
Tickets for the event are $5 each. Tickets are available at the Wheaton City Hall or Stop and Shop in Wheaton.
