Clara Elizabeth Brandon, 99, passed away Oct.17, 2011, at her daughter's home in Boise, Idaho. She was born July 3, 1912, in Mineral Springs, the eldest daughter of Luther W. and Bessie Burbridge Smith. She married Herbert Brandon on June 6, 1942, and to this union one daughter, Marilyn, was born. The family moved to Hawthorne, Nev., in 1953; where Clara spent the next 40 years. In 1993, she moved to Boise, Idaho, to live with her daughter.
She was named valedictorian of Cassville High School, and received a scholarship to attend Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield. She earned a bachelor of science in Education from the University of Nevada. For 38 years, she taught school in Missouri, Kansas and Nevada. She was accomplished in her career and received multiple awards. She taught Sunday School for 20 years and served as missionary chairman of the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne, Nev. She was chairman for Red Cross and Easter Seal.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Loren, Grover and Charles; and sisters, Lola Isley, Ollie Blankenship, Bertha Bowen and Dollie Smith.
Survivors include: her daughter, Marilyn Gossett, of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Loy Bowen and Maxine Stockton conducted the services. Burial was at Mineral Springs Cemetery, Cassville.
