Daniel McGiffin Shaffer, 68, of Shell Knob, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, in his home.

He was born Dec. 28, 1942, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Willard and Elizabeth (Rutledge) Shaffer. He was united in marriage to Dorthy Pate and to this union three children were born. He later married Kathleen, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his father.

Survivors include: his mother, Elizabeth Shaffer, of Topeka, Kan.; two sons, William Shaffer, of Lakeland, Fla., and Robert Shaffer and his wife, Emily, of Overland Park, Kan.; one daughter, Kelley Shaffer, of Lakeland, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

He grew up and received his education in Fairfax, Va., where he graduated from Wakefield High School. He then attended two years at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. For a few years, he resided in Virginia and then moved back to Kansas, where he worked as an auto mechanic. He also did construction work throughout his career. After his retirement in 2003, he moved to Shell Knob to make his home.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
