Wildcats fall to Monett, beat Aurora

The Cassville Wildcats soccer team lost a tough 3-1 decision to the Monett Cubs on Monday night.

The Wildcats struck first with a penalty kick by Austin Deffenbaugh in the 29th minute. Monett's Eddie Aceves scored the equalizer via penalty kick in the 36th minute.

The Wildcats and Cubs were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Monett added two goals in the second half. The first by Travis Thompson and the second by Jorge Aceves.

The Wildcats stepped up their play in the final 10 minutes and had two break-away chances to score but Monett's defense held firm.

Last Tuesday, the Cassville strikers earned an impressive 4-1 victory over Aurora.

Zach McGuffey scored the Wildcats' first goal on an assist from Deffenbaugh. The second go-ahead goal was tallied by David Verde with an assist from Christian Verde. The final two scores were credite to Verde and Deffenbaugh with McGuffey picking up assists on both goals.

Aurora had seven shots and goal with Wildcat goalie Indy Cole coming up big with six saves.

The Cassville JV also picked up a win over the Houn's. The young Wildcats won 2-0. Ricardo Gonzales scored the first goal, and Jesus Camarillo was credited with the second.

Goalkeeper Tristan Larsen earned the shutout.

The Wildcats will be on the road all this week with games at Carl Junction and New Covenant.
