Billy R. "Bill" Ervin, 79, of Shell Knob, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Tulsa, Okla., Oct. 3, 1932, the son of Erie Meadows and Goldie (Williams) Ervin. On Nov. 21, 1954, in Coffeyville, Kan., he was united in marriage to Patricia Marie Mayfield, who survives.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Tim Ervin and his wife, Michelle, of Edwardsville, Ill., and Todd Ervin, of Shell Knob; two daughters, Teressa Coon and her husband, Steve, of Overland Park, Kan., and Sheryl Ervin, of Topeka, Kansas; one sister, Linda Tackett, of Fittstown, Okla.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
He graduated from Field Kindley High School, Coffeyville, Kan., after which he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning, he continued his education at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., where he received his bachelor's degree in mathematics. He was a member of the swim team in both high school and college. He worked for Western Electric as a supervisor and department chief in St. Louis and also in North Carolina before retiring in 1983. He and Pat moved to Lampe, where they owned the Lake Inn Resort for nine years.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Oxford Health Care and Hospice, 1550 E. Sunshine, P.O. Box 10939, Springfield, MO 65804. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
