Cain wins local GOP straw poll
Herman Cain was the straw poll winner at the September meeting of the Barry County Republican Club where those attending were asked to pick their favorite candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.
Cain, the former president and chief executive officer of the Godfather's Pizza chain and a syndicated columnist and radio host, received 26 percent of the votes in an informal poll of local GOP club members.
Mitt Romney came in a close second, earning 20 percent of the votes cast. Other top finishers were: undecided, 17 percent; Rick Perry, 15 percent; Newt Gingrich, 11 percent; and Ron Paul, 6 percent.
The September meeting, which was held at the Barry County Museum in Cassville, attracted a record crowd of 76 people.
Senator Jack Goodman, of Mt. Vernon, was the featured speaker.
