Poker run to benefit Cassville Education Fund

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

The second annual Cassville Education Fund Motorcycle Poker Run will be held in conjunction with the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival and Chili and Salsa Cook-Off on Saturday, Oct. 22.

"It is going to be a fun ride," said Joe Cavness, who is organizing the poker run. "It is a lot of fun to go through town when all the people are here for the cook-off."

Registration for the poker run will be held in the Cassville School District parking lot north of the Rock Gym beginning at 8 a.m. on Oct. 22. The poker run will begin at 9 a.m.

"We will leave Cassville and travel through Berryville, Ark., to Huntsville, Ark., and then back through Eureka Springs, Ark., to Seligman and Cassville," said Cavness. "For those who have never been on a poker run, the event offers five stops. At each stop, we draw a card and build a poker hand."

The rider with the best hand will receive 25 percent of the total registration fees collected and two tickets to The Show. The rider with the worst hand will receive 10 percent of the registration fees and two tickets to The Show.

The entry fee is $25 per hand. A pair of hands can be purchased for $40, and three hands can be purchased for $60.

The first 25 riders who register for the event will receive free chili cook-off tasting kits. In the event of rain, the poker run will be rescheduled, said Cavness.

The poker run will benefit the Cassville Education Fund, a permanent endowment for funding education needs that exceed the Cassville R-4 School District budget.
