Robert "Bob" Roden, 86, of Cassville, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, in St. John's Hospital, Cassville.
He was born Oct. 7, 1924, at Monett, the youngest child of George Greenberry and Lelia (Baker) Roden. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his brothers, Lester, Ralph and Herschel, and two sisters, Ruth Hayward and Irene Roller.
after graduating from Purdy High School in 1943, he was inducted into the Army. He was a veteran of World War II and saw action in the Philippines. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
On July 31, 1955, at the First Baptist Church, Butterfield, he was united in marriage to Leota Thompson. She survives.
Additional survivors include: three sons, George and his wife, Carolyn, of Cassville, Chris, of Lebanon, and Jeff and his wife, Kara, of Clever; two daughters, Susan, of Cassville, and Jennifer and her husband, Steve Stewart, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
He worked for 13 years as the bookmobile driver/clerk for the Barry County Library. He was then employed at U.S. Shoes for 13 years before retiring.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Butterfield.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Fohn Funeral Home. Brother Bob Neeley conducted the service with Brother Doyle Russell reading the obituary. Pallbearers were George Roden, Chris Roden, Jeff Roden, Steve Stewart, Steve Roden and Jim Thompson.
Burial with military honors were at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.
