The Cassville Wildcat soccer team earned an exciting 3-1 victory over Thomas Jefferson last Thursday night.
In front of a home crowd, Cassville got on top early when Austin Deffenbaugh punched in a goal at the two-minute mark. The goal came off a rebound from a cornerkick.
The Wildcats scored two more goals to give themselves the lead for good. The second goal was scored by David Verde on an assist by Zach McGuffey. The final tally of the night was an unassisted goal by Verde. The goals mark Verde's sixth and seventh of the season.
Goalkeeper Indy Cole played an aggressive game in the net, tallying nine saves to preserve the victory.
In all, the Wildcats kept up the offensive pressure, recording 11 shot on goal against Thomas Jefferson.
Last Tuesday, Cassville faced a talented College Heights squad in Joplin. The Wildcats were unable to score and fell 0-4.
Cassville hosts Carthage on Thursday and then competes in the Joplin Invitational Soccer Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats are scheduled to play Joplin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and Carl Junction at noon on Saturday.
