Southwest defeated Hurley and Wheaton but lost a tough match to Pierce City in high school volleyball action.
"It was a good week," said Coach Steve Voyak. "Pierce City is exceptional; best team we've seen this season. Our players fought to the end, and the game was in doubt until the final point. We know what it's going to take to win the district now. The other games were fall less challenging, but the girls responded and earned wins."
Pierce City won 25-20, 25-20. Taylor Mettlach led the Lady Trojans with five attacks and two blocks, while Chelsie Leroy added 10 digs.
Southwest beat Hurley and Wheaton in two sets each in home games.
Against Hurley, Montana Hendrix had nine assists, while Shannon Mitchell added seven attacks. Jerri Lynn Henry had her consecutive serve streak broken at 63.
Against Wheaton, Hendrix had six assists, four aces and three attacks, while Leroy added eight digs and two attacks.
"We're still making some changes in the offense," Voyak said. "The players have been really open to the adjustments, and I think all of them have been helpful. We have seven more games to get ready for districts."
In Ozark 7 Conference play, the Lady Trojans are tied with Purdy for second place with 3-1 records behind first-place Exeter. Southwest and Purdy still play later in the season, but Exeter has an advantage with wins over both schools.
