An Arkansas man has been charged with second degree murder in connection with a shooting on Friday night in Washburn that left 34-year-old John Bevill dead from an apparent gun shot wound to the chest.

According to McDonald County Sheriff Rob Evenson, Brian Clapper, 31, of Bentonville, Ark., was taken into custody without incident and is being held in the McDonald County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond.

The shooting occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. at 445 Cecil Epling Way in Washburn. Deputies were called to the scene and found Bevill dead. At a nearby residence, they discovered a second victim, Kendrick Long, 22, of Rogers, Ark., suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Long survived his injuries after being transported to a Joplin hospital by air ambulance.

After conducting an initial investigation, McDonald County deputies and troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol converged on a location on Highway 90 near the intersection of Highway E and apprehended Clapper.

In addition to second degree murder charges, Clapper was charged with first degree assault with a firearm and two counts of armed criminal action by McDonald County Prosecutor Jonathan Pierce.

Clapper was formally arraigned in McDonald County Circuit Court on Monday.
