Shell Knob festival to be held Saturday
The sixth annual Shakin' in the Shell Fest will be held off of Highway 39 behind Meek's in Shell Knob this Saturday. The event, which begins at 10 a.m., will offer musical entertainment, a car show, food concessions, craft and business vendors and an assortment of games and activities for families.
"This is a great opportunity to get out and socialize with family and friends," said Krissy Peters, festival publicity chair. "You also get a chance to see products and services offered by vendors and organizations in town and support our local economy.
"It's starting to cool down and there is not a lot to do on the lake, but we will have a lot to do at the festival," said Peters.
The 2011 festival will begin with the traditional patriotic kick-off, which often includes a color guard and a performance of the National Anthem by a local artist. The Blue Eye High School Band will perform at 10 a.m., and the Shell Knob School Band will take the stage at 10:30 a.m.
Pet owners will have the opportunity to show off their furry friends during the famous Ugly Dog Contest, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The contest will offer a variety of awards for the pet contestants.
"We have a lot of new things this year," said Peters. "We will have horse rides and a photo booth where you can have your photo taken with the Shakin' in the Shell logo.
"We will also have the 22nd annual classic car, truck and cycle show during the day," said Peters. "Community members are encouraged to bring their cars, trucks and motorcycles for the event."
Children and families will have the opportunity to spend the day in the festival's family fun area, which offers a variety of inflatables, games and a rootbeer garden. The family area will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Entertainment will continue on the festival's main stage throughout the day. Evelyn Lock and the Outriders Band will perform from 1 to 4:30 p.m., and J. Rock and the Third Street Band will entertain the festival crowd from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
Electrified Karaoke with Rod Phillips will be offered from 8 to 10 p.m.
The Shakin' in the Shell Fest Committee secured a diamond sponsor for this year's event. The festival will be presented by the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce and Paradise Cove Camping Resort in Eagle Rock.
Adult admission for the festival is $1. Children will be admitted at no cost.
