The Cassville R-4 School Board took one more step toward the construction of a storm shelter during its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 15. Board members reviewed RFQs (requests for qualifications) for project architectural services and grant management services.
"This is one of the many things that need to be checked off before the project can begin," said Superintendent Richard Asbill. "If we get grant funding approval, we will be 30 to 45 days ahead of schedule by doing this prior to receiving approval."
The Cassville School District has not committed any funding to the project, which calls for the construction of a storm shelter facility where the middle school field house is currently located on the R-4 campus. Although board members reviewed the RFQs, none of the submitted proposals have been accepted.
"These are things we have to do anyway," said Asbill. "We are just preplanning for the project. If we receive the funding, the board will go back to the proposals that we received and make their selections."
Last year, the district applied for a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) grant that will provide 70 percent of the funding needed to construct the storm shelter. Cassville has remained a candidate for the funding by passing the first and second reviews in the grant application process.
In addition to reviewing RFQs, the district will use its annual capital project planning to prepare for the storm shelter project. During the meeting, board members Becky Henningson and David Haddock were reappointed to the facility improvement committee to assist with this year's planning.
The board also approved employment of the following substitute staff members: Tina Autrey, George Beezley, Shonna Cochran-Roberts, Holly Cole, Lana Couch, Martha Crouch, Krista Davis, Clint Dillow, Myranda Frederickson, Lou Ann Haney, Judy Harvey, Tessa Heil, William Hughes, Mark Irsik, Heather Kloepper, Deborah Lay, Megan Leonard, Michelle Marcano, Leslie McCullough, Judith Miller, Samantha Nama, Carl Norton, Alicia Outhouse, Lisa Reid, Robert Shipps, Travis Stokes, Adriena Vance, Audrey White, Jordan Williams, Sara Wilson and Elizabeth Wolfe.
