Accident leaves Cassville man dead

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Eugene Madison, of Cassville, was killed in an accident on Farm Road 2180 in Cassville on Monday.

According to a statement released by the Cassville Police Department, officers responded to the address at 10:16 a.m. on Sept. 12.

"We were advised that Eugene Madison was working on conveyer type machinery," said Detective Danny Boyd. "Mr. Madison was under the conveyer working on it when it fell on him."

Boyd said that Madison was completing welding repairs on the machine, which is used during the black walnut hulling process. The conveyer was damaged at the end of last year's walnut collection season.

"He was trying to lower the conveyer to work on the pulleys and the conveyer would not come down," said Boyd. "We believe he was trying to pull it down when it fell on him."

Madison was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the Cassville Police Department, Cox EMS, the Cassville Fire Department, the Barry County Coroner and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
