A Pierce City woman has been arrested in Purdy after she allegedly stole two wallets from an elderly Purdy couple. According to Purdy Police Chief Jackie Lowe, Latosha N. Keith, 26, went to a residence in the 200 block of Caledonia Street in Purdy on July 12 asking the residents if she could borrow some jumper cables.

Keith later returned to the residence claiming she had dropped her phone and asked the couple to assist her in searching for it. While the residents were distracted, Keith allegedly took two wallets containing money and credit cards from the residence. The credit cards were later used to purchase items in Monett, including stereo speakers and an audio amplifier.

Following an investigation by Barry County Deputy Danny Crabb and Purdy Patrol Officer Russ Nicholls, Keith was arrested at the Autumn Woods Apartment complex in Purdy and charged with felony stealing, first degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance. Some of the items, along with the controlled substance, were recovered at the scene.

Purdy law enforcement officials have also recovered a stolen vehicle and three juveniles are now facing charges in connection with the theft.

On July 14, a vehicle belonging to Dustin Mareth was stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Edina Street.

The vehicle, which was damaged when one of the juvenile suspects backed into a tree, was recovered by Lowe at a residence on N. Business 37 in Purdy.

Three 16-year-old suspects, detained at the scene, are now facing felony charges for tampering with a motor vehicle.

The incident was investigated by Lowe, Lt. Terry Meek of the Barry County Sheriff's Department and the Barry County Juvenile Office.
