Johnny Dean Harris, 84, of Wheaton, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011, in his home.

He was born April 28, 1927, in Fairview, the son of John Sterling and Nora (Wogoman) Harris. On Oct. 6, 1950, in Ridgley, he was united in marriage to Geneva Mae Birkes, who preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include: one son, Dave Harris and his wife, Suzan, of Wheaton; two daughters, Deb McGhee and her husband, Jack, of Springfield, and Karen Harris Larkin, of Springfield; three brothers, Gene Harris, of Fairview, Lee Harris, of Fairview, and Jim Harris, of Ridgley; one sister, Mickey Mitchell, of Wheaton; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren,

He grew up and received his education at Fairview, where he graduated from high school. On March 5, 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on April 17, 1952. He then resided in Independence and was employed for General Motors in Kansas City. In 1966, he moved to California, and worked for Coen Company. In 1978, he moved back to Missouri, living in Wheaton and opened John's Stop and Shop and later Geneva's Village Place. He also drove a truck for Justin Boot Factory during that time.
