Amateur photographers could win big prizes

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

The Missouri Snapshots Photo Contest, which is sponsored by Rural Missouri magazine and Missouri State Parks, will give amateur photographers from across the state the opportunity to win one of five $500 prize packages.

"Award-winning photography has always been a hallmark at Rural Missouri," said Jim McCarty, Rural Missouri editor. "Now, it's time to give our readers a chance to show us what they can do with a camera and win some great prizes along the way."

Photographers have the opportunity to enter snapshots in five categories. First, second and third place winners will be selected for each category. The winning entries will be published in the January 2012 issue of Rural Missouri.

Categories include: scenic Missouri; fun on the water; historic Missouri; show-me wildlife; and playing in the parks.

"Missouri state parks are a natural place to take award-winning photographs," said Bill Bryan, Missouri State Parks director. "They offer the best of Missouri's landscapes, historic landmarks and places to have fun. We welcome all photographers and look forward to seeing how they showcase our parks and sites."

Photo entries must be taken at one of Missouri's 85 state parks or historic sites. Photos will be judged on sharpness, composition, lighting, creativity and adherence to the category theme. Photo entries must be received by Nov. 4.

First place winners will receive a Missouri State Park getaway package, which is valued at $500. The package includes lodging for two, a state park activity and a gift certificate for meals.

The award for second place is a gift basket of merchandise, apparel and camping gift certificates, and third place winners will receive a $50 Missouri State Parks gift card.
