OACAC offers help with cooling bills

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Community members struggling to pay costs associated with air conditioning their homes are encouraged to apply for OACAC's Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP).

"This program helps with electric costs to keep homes cool," said Gail Reed, Barry County OACAC Neighborhood Center director. "Only electric bills can be submitted, and individuals must have a disconnect notice to qualify for the program."

ECIP receives funds from state and local sources to assist qualifying households in paying fuel bills. The program also provides information about alternate energy sources and education in the area of energy conservation.

ECIP's Summer Cooling Program provides assistance with payment of electric bills from June through September. The program can also provide qualifying households with fans and air conditioners.

"Applications can be completed over the telephone and by mail," said Reed.

Individuals can apply for the program by calling 417-864-3460.

OACAC also provides programs to assist with heating costs. More information on those programs can be found online at www.oacac-caa.org/energy.
