New manager enjoying summer at the pool
This summer, the Cassville YMCA welcomed a new pool manager to the Cassville Aquatic Center. Niki Crouthamel has been serving in the leadership position since May 28.
"I enjoy being outside, and I love swimming," said Crouthamel. "I also really like working with the public and talking with the patrons."
Crouthamel perviously served as a high school teacher at Blue Eye for three years. Prior to beginning her career in the public school system, she worked at the LUC Boys Ranch for six and a half years.
Crouthamel will be joining the Cassville R-4 School District as a high school math teacher in the fall.
"I was looking for a summer job, and I enjoy working with the community," said Crouthamel. "I saw this position as an opportunity to get to know the community and the local teens."
As Cassville Aquatic Center manager, Crouthamel creates work schedules for the pool lifeguards and other Aquatic Center staff members. She is also responsible for scheduling swimming lessons.
"I am in charge of opening the facility and keeping it in running order," said Crouthamel. "The city handles all of the major repairs, but I do the day-to-day things. I do the concession stand ordering, and I make sure the facility is clean and ready for the public."
Prior to serving as pool manager, Crouthamel completed Red Cross lifeguarding certification, CPR and automated defibrillator device training.
"I would like to learn more about swimming lessons," said Crouthamel. "I also want to keep improving the swim lessons that we offer. I would love to offer some training in the fall."
The Cassville Aquatic Center offers open swim hours from 1 to 6 p.m. each day. Family nights are offered from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. During family nights, families can swim for $5.
"We close at 6 p.m. on most nights, but we are here later because people rent the pool for parties quite often," said Crouthamel. "They can rent the facility before swimming lesson hours or after open swim hours."
Swimming lessons are conducted at noon. Currently, the ARC reserves the pool at 11 a.m. twice a week to give residents an opportunity to swim outside open swim hours.
The Cassville Aquatic Center will offer its final free swim day of 2011 on Monday, Aug. 1. The pool will be open through Sunday, Aug. 14.
