Celebrate Christmas in July

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

On Friday, July 8, the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce will partner with area businesses to host the final Friday Squared event of 2011. Chamber members and event attendees will celebrate Christmas in July during the pre-show block party, which will be held on the square in Cassville beginning at 7 p.m.

"With over 20 businesses and vendors participating this month, there is no doubt this will be the best Friday Squared yet," said Mindi Artherton, chamber executive director. "There really will be something for everyone. The kids can jump around in the inflatable bounce houses and decorate cookies with Mrs. Claus. The ladies can shop until they drop, and the men can enjoy food from our food vendors and live music from Barry County Connection."

"Since we are celebrating Christmas in July, Santa Clause will be making an appearance and handing out candy canes to all the kids," said Artherton. "Parents should bring their own cameras if they would like a photo with Santa. Attendees will also get the opportunity to watch a Christmas family favorite, "Elf," on the big screen. This is our last Friday Squared of the year, so you won't want to let this one pass you by."

The Cassville High School cheerleading squad will sell pizza by the slice, and Little Tommy's Hotdogs will serve hotdogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, Polish dogs and brats.

Connection magazine will offer free cupcakes and July issues of Connection. Families who visit the booth will have the opportunity to pose for the cover of Connection for $2.50. Half the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross Joplin Tornado Relief efforts.

The Cassville Chamber will serve ice cream cones and make-your-own sundaes in keepsake Friday Squared cups.

Youngsters attending Friday Squared will have the opportunity to visit the Cassville Library booth and decorate cookies with Mrs. Claus or receive a glitter tattoo at the Kornerstone, Inc., booth. Tattoos will cost $5 each and proceeds will benefit the organization's adult education and Teen Mom programs.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to win prizes by answering trivia questions at the Cassville Education Fund booth, and Les Jacobs Ford-Mercury will display two new vehicles on the square during the event.

Lilly Bug Designs will sell tutus and merchandise for little girls. Babycakes and Custom cases will have diaper cakes and custom wet wipe cases on display, and Sew Loved Design will offer a booth that showcases custom children's apparel.

Friday Squared attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy live musical entertainment by Barry County Connections from 7 p.m. to dusk. The band includes Ryan Preddy, Tim Thompson, Eli Stehlik, Rokky England, Roddy England and Robby England.

Community members who attend the pre-show block party are encouraged to shop locally from 7 p.m. to dusk. Downtown businesses will offer the following special promotions during the block party:

* State Farm Insurance will hand out fans, chocolate candy and State Farm scratch-off cards.

The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce will also be awarding prizes every 15 minutes during the Christmas in July celebration. The first prize will be awarded at 7:15 p.m.

Prizes will include: gift certificates to Geraldi's and the BBQ Station; a one-year subscription to the Cassville Democrat newspaper; merchandise from Forever Yours Embroidery; movie passes; and a $50 gift certificate to Tomblin's Jewelry and Gifts.

To enter the Friday Squared drawing, attendees must obtain a 12 Stops of Christmas card at one of the participating businesses or the Cassville Chamber booth. Directions for the contest are printed on the cards. Attendees must be present to win a prize.
