The Wheaton City Council reviewed applications for a part-time clerk position at its regularly scheduled meeting on May 4.
The aldermen selected four candidates to interview for the position on May 9. They also set the new city clerk's pay at $8 per hour and decided to place the new clerk on probation for the first 60 days of employment.
On June 7, the council hired Margie Schad. She began serving at the Wheaton City Hall on June 13. She is working 24 hours per week.
In other business, the Wheaton City Council:
* Directed Bob Lombard, city employee, to obtain bids for steel doors that will be installed in the bathrooms at the Wheaton City Park.
* Decided that the purchase of security cameras for the park was cost prohibitive.
* Tabled a dangerous building and nuisance ordinance until the city attorney is available to discuss the issue with the aldermen.
* Voted to repair the street behind Wheaton Grain using a dirt base.
