Richard Edge "Dick" Johnston, 83, of Cassville, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, in his home.
He was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Atlanta, Ga., the son of Walter E. and Nelle (Edge) Johnston. On June 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Stella S. Graalfs, who preceded him in death on May 19, 2006. Also preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Mildred McBlair.
Surviving include: one son, Richard Johnston and his wife, Martha, of Canton, Ga.; two daughters, Lori Bogle and her husband, David Patterson, of Baltimore, Md., and Lesa Johnston, of Cassville; one brother, Robert E. Johnston and his wife, Jeannette, of La Mesa, Calif.; one sister, Elizabeth Leidy and her husband, Al, of Gold River, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He received his education in San Diego, Calif. He joined the U.S. Navy and also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For several years, he was employed as a project manager for NASA on the space shuttle program. In 1984, he moved from Huntsville, Ala., to Cassville, to make his home. He also served on the board of directors for BLARC.
Memorial services with military honors were held Tuesday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Wayne Ferguson conducted the services.
