County hit by wave of vehicle break-ins

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

A rash of vehicle break-ins has prompted area law enforcement officials to issue a warning to local residents.

The Barry County Sheriff's Department has responded to numerous reports of vehicle break-ins in recent weeks, and Sheriff Mick Epperly is asking citizens to be on the defensive.

"I am cautioning everyone not to leave money, medicine or any valuables in your car," said Sheriff Epperly.

Vehicle break-ins have occurred across Barry County. There were 15 cars broken into in one night in the Mineral Springs area. Other areas that have been hit include Bates Corner, Eagle Rock, Golden and Monett.

Suspects are breaking into vehicles and stealing money, prescription medicine and other items of value. The incidents are occuring at all times during the day and night, and if the cars are locked, the suspects are breaking out windows.

Anyone with information regarding the break-ins is asked to contact the Barry County Sheriff's Office at 847-6556.
