Lane Pendergraft and Kandace Norman, both of Exeter, joined 83 high school juniors on the 48th annual Missouri Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., June 10 through June 16. The students met with Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill and toured famous monuments, the Smithsonian Institution's museums and Arlington National Cemetery. The local delegates had the opportunity to take part in a sightseeing and dance cruise on the Potomac River with students from other states. Pendergraft and Norman also participated in the Electric Youth Day, an event coordinated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association that brings together over 1,500 student delegates from across the country. The event offered addresses by government leaders and a motivational speech by Mike Schlappi, a four-time Paralympic medalist and two-time world wheelchair basketball champion. The youth trip was sponsored by Barry Electric Cooperative. Pictured above, from left, are: Pendergraft and Norman.
