Washburn adopts new codes
The Washburn City Council adopted and enacted a new code of ordinances at its regularly scheduled meeting on May 16.
In March, the council hosted a public hearing to gather input from the community on the proposed new city codes, which were reviewed and revised by the Washburn Civic Association, formerly known at the Washburn Concerned Citizens Committee.
The new codes can be reviewed at the Washburn City Hall during regular office hours.
In other business, the Washburn City Council:
* Voted to partner with the Southwest R-5 School District to secure the 2011 COPS Secure Our Schools Grant, which will provide funding to assess and update the school's security system.
* Discussed a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant that the city plans to pursue that could provide funding for a storm shelter.
* Adopted the annual budget for the fiscal year that begins on July 1.
