Carthage man killed, several injured in northern Barry County crash

A Carthage man is dead following a three-vehicle wreck on Highway 97 three miles south of Pierce City.

The wreck occurred at 5:30 p.m. on Friday when a northbound 2004 Honda, driven by Jacquelyn A. Little, 21, of Carthage, crossed the center line and sideswiped a 1999 Dodge, driven by Kimberly C. Hickerson, 26, of Aurora. The Little vehicle continued to skid into oncoming traffic and hit a 2006 Dodge minivan, driven by Lois K. Osborne, 50, of Springfield.

Hickerson received serious injuries in the wreck and two passengers in the vehicle, Hickerson's daughter, Brittany L. Hickerson, 6, and her son, Tyler Hickerson, 4, both received moderate injuries. Kimberly Hickerson was taken by ambulance to St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Brittany Hickerson and Tyler Hickerson were both airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Kimberly Hickerson was not wearing a seat belt. Tyler and Brittany were in safety seats.

Little was seriously injured in the crash and she was airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Her daughter, Alexis N. Little, 2, received moderate injuries and was airlifted to Cox Hospital South in Springfield.

A third passenger in the Little vehicle, Anthony J. Snyder, 24, of Carthage, was killed. The body was taken to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. All occupants of the vehicle were wearing safety belts.

This is the 36th fatality for Troop D this year.

Other crashes

* A single-vehicle wreck on Sunday left a Wheaton man with moderate injuries. The crash occurred at 12:30 a.m. on Highway CC, three miles north of Exeter, when a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by Tyler J. Brattin, 21, ran off the roadway and overturned. He was not wearing a seat belt. Brattin was taken by ambulance to Cox Hospital South in Springfield.
