Homer M. Burton, 72, of Monett, passed away, Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Cox-Monett Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1938, in Monett, the son of the late Homer McGuire and Alcey A. (Parmalee) Burton.

He owned and operated Burton and Sons Golf Cart Service in Monett for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monett, where he was a Sunday School teacher. He was a past member of the Monett Jaycees, and during his earlier years, he enjoyed riding bulls.

He married Judy E. Cline on Feb. 20, 1960, in Pierce City, and she survives.

Additional survivors include: two sons, David Burton and wife, Lisa, of Monett, and Chris Burton and wife, Brandy, of Monett; one daughter Lynn Schad and husband, Greg, of Monett; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Burton and wife, Phyllis, of Eagle Rock, Bill Burton and wife, Ilse, of Monett, and Sam Burton and wife, Ethel, of Rolla; three sisters, Emma Jean McCormick and husband, Bob, of Monett, Madge Larkin, of Monett and Liz Pennell and husband, Don, of Joplin. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ryan Maynard Burton; and two brothers, Jimmy Burton and Clarence Burton.

Funeral services for were held Sunday at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Cox officiating. Interment was at the Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are being directed to the First Baptist Church or to Lacoba Nursing Home in care of the funeral home.
