Cassville track stars are headed to state

Cassville track squads struggled to qualify athletes to state from the Class 3 sectional at Marshfield on Saturday. The Cassville boys scored 26 points for 10th place in the team standings, while the Cassville girls finished in 20th with 14 points.

Cassville's Josh Lewright took third in the 100-meter dash with his 11.47, and later placed third in the 200-meter sprint in 23.77.

The Wildcats also qualified in the 4x200 meter relay, with the foursome of Cody Frana, Lewright, Devin Linenbrink and Hayden Prater finishing third in 1:31.9.

Frana placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles to qualify for state, running 42.1. He also placed sixth in the high hurdles.

Cassville girls

Calisia Brookes missed a trip to state by one position, placing fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.29. But Brookes qualified as a member of Cassville's fourth-place 4x100 meter relay team. The quartet of Brookes, Risa Darveaux, Reba Dupont and Danielle Pianalto posted a time of 51.8. The same squad placed sixth in the 4x200 meter relay.

Jessica Barrientos placed seventh in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:05.21.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Class 3 Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
