The Purdy Eagles won the Missouri Class 2, District 12 baseball championship last Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory over Diamond.
"It was our best game defensively all season," said Purdy Coach Joshua Hughes. "The boys really stepped up for this contest and played great team ball. I was very happy with their effort and enthusiasm."
Purdy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Reese Stevenson doubled, and Landon Terry walked to open the game. Both runners scored on a Riley Veith single.
The Eagles put three more runs across the plate in the fourth to extend their advantage to 5-0.
Kevin Miller pitched a gem for the Eagles on the mound. He threw seven innings, scattered eight hits, allowed one earned run and struck out six.
"Our boys really battled hard all night long," said Hughes. "The bottom third of our line-up really gave us a lift by getting on base. I am proud of the boys."
Purdy was originally scheduled to play the sectional game against Clever on Monday night.
Due to weather, the game was changed to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Clever.
