The Southwest Trojans saw their baseball season end at the Class 2 District 12 tournament at Ash Grove on Saturday. The Trojans gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and lost to the host Pirates, 2-1.
Southwest's leadoff batter Ty Hackett walked to start the game and later scored on a double by Tyler Ferguson. Ash Grove tied the game in the third inning when their right fielder Wood drew a one-out walk and then scored.
The Trojans had the go-ahead run at second base in the fifth and sixth innings, but great defensive plays by the Pirates kept the score knotted at 1-1.
Ash Grove scored the game winner in the bottom of the seventh inning with a trio of singles. Watson's walk-off single plated Mooneyham to end the contest.
Exeter, Wheaton reach Class 1 District 6 semis
In Class 1 District 6 play at Jasper on Monday afternoon, the Exeter Tigers run-ruled Everton 13-0 to advance to a second-round game against McAuley on Tuesday.
Top-seeded Wheaton drew a first-round bye and were slated to play Lockwood on Tuesday.
