For the fifth time in six years, the Purdy Eagles baseball team has won the Ozark 7 Conference title. On Wednesday, the Eagles clinched the crown with an 11-3 victory over Wheaton.
"The boys got off the bus focused and ready to play," said Purdy Head Coach Joshua Hughes. "We hit the ball hard early in the game and were able to score. That gave us a shot of confidence."
The Eagles scored three runs in the first and third innings and led 9-1 after four innings of play.
Riley Veith scattered six hits over six innings of work on the mound. He allowed two earned runs and struck out seven.
"Riley found the strike zone and really pitched well," said Hughes. "All season long when we needed a big game on the hill, he has stepped up and performed well."
Devon Bennett was two for three at the plate with two runs scored. Veith went two for four with two runs scored. Cody Hall finished two for four with two runs scored and two RBI. Kevin Miller went three for four with an RBI.
"The boys saw the ball well at the plate," said Hughes. "I was very proud of the team. Everyone pitched in for this conference title."
