The Southwest Trojans reeled off three straight upsets to win the Miller High School Baseball Tournament. The Trojans beat College Heights on Wednesday, 10-7, then defeated the host Cardinals on Friday night, 12-10.
In the championship game on Saturday, Austin Evans pitched the best game of his career as Southwest downed Fair Grove 5-1 to earn the championship trophy.
"I just told him to show his knuckleball to every batter at least once," said Southwest's Kenny Ferguson.
Evans confounded the Eagles with his tantalizing offspeed repertoire, gaining confidence as the game wore on.
Tyler Ferguson homered in the first inning to set the tone for the Trojans. Jordan Savage, Jake Shrum and Evans all recorded RBI in the third inning, and Ty Hackett scored a run in the seventh to ensure the victory.
